Dear Mr. C,
Ms. Kathleen Smith has asked me to write to you on her behalf. She is
currently under the care of Dr. Simons who is doing an evaluation of
her
residency and treatment here at Idlewild Acres.
Quite frankly, we received several complaints from relatives of our
patients about your aunt. Calls and letters came from many, several
of whom
reside in our condominium extended care facility with their spouses.
On Sunday evening of last week at our usual roast beef dinner, Kathleen
caused quite a scene in the dining room. It is alleged that she and
a
companion, Ms. Margaret Hall, provoked several of the older gentlemen
to
exceed their usual demands on their wives as well as the dining room
and
recreational staff. Both Ms. Smith and Ms. Hall were found to be in
some
state of intoxication in the dining hall and needed to be escorted
to their
rooms to sleep off their indulgences. Staff say that Kathleen made
a number
of unfounded accusations about the quality and cleanliness of the kitchen,
practically shouting vitriolic comments as she left the room. Disturbing
innuendoes and references were made.
As you know, our policy at Idlewild Acres prohibits alcohol in the rooms
and residential condominiums. We have no idea how Kathleen came to
be in
possession of several bottles of French wine and a hip flask of brandy.
Obviously under the influence, she raved on at length when our polite
but
gently firm attendants came to escort her out. Numerous derogatory
references were made to our meal plan. Do you know why she would
be
fixated on food? Her comments have caused some upset among the
other
residents.
I add for the record that Idlewild Acres is completely responsible to
the
resident committee on matters of menu. The quality of our catering
service
is unimpeachable. Our qualified executive chef previously worked at
St.
Brendan's Hospital for Wayward Travelers and was general manager of
a
popular fried chicken franchise before coming to work with us.
Ms. Smith's complaints could well have been taken through proper channels
with out upsetting the other patients. As you are aware, menu and dietary
requirements are proscribed by our nutritional consultant and meet
the
highest standards. Also for the record, Kathleen's daily vitamin
supplements are not "happy pills". Our chef does not spit in the soup.
Despite Ms. Smith's suggestion to the contrary, we would know our elbows
from our rectums if asked a straight forward question. Her colorful
use of
vulgarity in discussion with the staff was completely uncalled for.
Her
rude and loud suggestions to Mr. Pimm are not anatomically possible
and not
relevant in the slightest. I should know, he has been my devoted husband
for twenty eight years. I do not know why he was singled out for such
scathing criticism. He has always been a complete gentleman in that
regard
and we only sleep in separate rooms because of our unusual schedules.
Should Dr. Simons evaluation suggest continued residency here at Idlewild
Acres, Kathleen's library and Internet privileges will be restored
sometime
next week. In the interim she has asked that I communicate her
regrets and
apologies for any delay in response to her correspondence.
Mrs. Constance Pimm, RN.
Administrator, Idlewild Acres
