Dear Auntie Kate:I am proud to proclaim to the world that I was lucky enough to meet, fall in love with, and want to marry my cousin. I could care less how others would view what is after all a personal matter!
I was surprised to learn that their is still an element of stigma attached to cousin marriage. Could you recommend any books,or other sources that would address these issues? Particulary,my future stepdaughter is concerned what the reactions of her peers would be if I married her beautiful mother.
Dear Dale,
Congratulations on your wonderful attitude! If you read <http://www.cousincouples.com>
under misc, you will see that KC recommends a book "Forbidden Relatives".
I haven't read it, but I understand that it is the definitive work on contemporary
cousin marriage. And of course, you can
always read my Q&A column, and the other great info KC has compiled
at cousincouples.com.
I will say Dale that from the questions we get at "Dear Aunt Kate", and at <http://www.cousincouples.com> peer acceptance is mixed. Close friends are usually accepting, but there can be some teasing from the crowd. Privacy is often the best approach when children are involved.
Yours,
Aunt Kate
