Dear Auntie Kate:
My Cousin & I are 3rd cousins, (we figure).  When we visit each other, 2-3 times a year, we're inseparable. We hold hands and kiss (no toungue) like boyfriend & girlfriend.  We figured out about 2 years ago we were each others other half and each wear a 1/2 heart Mezpah. We want to live with each other but she's not thinking in terms of "forever." She feels that our relationship should never involve marriage or children. She says she wants children someday & will want to leave me when the time comes. I've been wanting to sell my home in Florida and re-locate in California to be with her. Should I?  How can we convince her it would be okay for a 3rd cousin marriage, (not to mention convincing our families.)

Dear Michael,

Well, what a modern and interesting girl. I bet she's glad that you're
interested too...

You should send your cousin a copy of "Forbidden Relatives", which you
can order from Amazon.com - there's a link from our
www.cousincouple.com site.  If you truly are third cousins, your
relationship is very distant and extremely unlikely to cause any
problems if you decide to have children.

In the interim, I have a few little concerns.  You don't mention how
old you are, or how old your cousin is, or what kind of people you
are.  Selling real property to make a life altering decision for
someone who won't consider it permanent might not be the smartest
thing to do. You should examine your relationship carefully before
doing anything so drastic, unless you are at a point in life where
money and position are of no relevance to your future.

Yes, I do think you have some of the right stuff happening Michael!
It's wonderful!  Just don't lose your head, your heart and your
fortune. That would make your old auntie too sad.

Your

Aunt Kate
