Dear Auntie Kate:My 4th cousin is 40. I am 36. We are involved. Our family who know are divided about how they feel. I have another femal cousin who is 66 who feels it is terribly wrong and doesnt' want to have anything to do with me. Is there any religion that forbids this? Should we stop telling people? How often does this occur? Can we ever marry? What do you think?
Dear Barbie,
Sometimes older folks just can't accept an idea that they have considered
taboo all their lives. Although 66 isn't an age where one's attitudes
should be geriatric. Perhaps your cousin had her own cousin relationships
dashed by convention forty hears ago. Perhaps she just can't fathom
how it
could happen. There are many reasons she would be upset.
But I wouldn't worry. She is a distant, bitter, older relative who can't
affect your life much if she won't have anything to do with you!
Telling people? Well dear, I've always been of the privacy or
don't ask,
don't tell school. Wear your heart on your sleeve if you must but don't
expect applause from everyone who sees it.
Yes, you can get married, and I'm sure you already know what I think.
You
can take our little online survey and it will tell you how often cousins
fall into relationships.
